School Based Decision Making Council (SBDM)
What is SDBM?
Site-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Councils create school policies and make a wide range of decisions, from selecting textbooks to hiring new administrators and teachers. Beechwood has two councils (one for elementary and one for high school). Each council includes teacher representatives, parent representatives, and an administrator.

Nominating Criteria:
Parents may nominate themselves or another parent as a nominee for election to the council. In order to qualify as a parent council member, a parent council member must be a parent, step-parent, foster parent or legal guardian of a student attending the school during the 2024-2025 school year for the elementary SBDM opening. A parent is ineligible if he or she is an employee or a relative of an employee (father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter) of Beechwood or a Beechwood school board member or the spouse of a board member.

- Elementary School representative - 1 open position for a two-year term
- High School representative - 2 open positions for one-year terms
Nominating Criteria:

Requirements:
The parent nominee must agree to the following:
- Background check and a registry check from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services regarding substantiated child abuse or neglect
- Attend the school council member training (six hours for a new member/ three hours for an experienced member)
- Attend monthly meetings (usually held after school)
Deadline:
- The nominee must submit the nomination form to the Beechwood PTSA via e-mail ([email protected]) by Wednesday, April. 24, 2024 by 11:59pm. Late entries will not be accepted.
- Along with the nomination form, attach a single-page summary of your background and experiences. Resumes are accepted but a paragraph is all that is needed. This information will be shared with voters before the election.
VOTING INFORMATION
- Voting will be done in person on Thursday, May 2, 2024 in the elementary lobby. Voting will be open from 7:30-8:30am and 6-7pm.
- You must show your driver's license when checking in to vote.
- All elementary families can vote in the elementary election if they will have a student in the elementary school next school year. All high school families can vote in the high school election if they will have a student in the high school next school year.
- To vote in this election, you must be the parent, step-parent, or legal guardian of a child who will attend Beechwood for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
